Pushout (n.) – - Billiards Dictionary
Pushout (n.) –
After the break in 9-ball, if nothing is sunk, then the next player to hit can choose to hit the cue ball in any manner chosen and then turn the table back over without consequence unless a scratch is committed. The trick comes in when the person that broke gets to choose whether to accept the pushout or turn it back over to the person who pushed out. This is a very particular strategy tool that can either set you up for a good run or make things difficult as both players continue to play safety shots.

This rack is very difficult, I am going to try and push out.
