On the wire (n./prep.) –
(n.) This is a method to handicap one player that is better. The worse player is the one who gets games on the wire, and will have fewer games to win in order to win the match. (prep.) This can also refer to using a wire with beads or coins to keep track of the count in a game like one pocket.
