This is a protective tool which screws on to the end of your shaft and butt when they are separated. If you are traveling with your cue stick dismantled, this tool can help keep your cue from getting damaged. Same as joint cap.
I just got some joint protectors for my cue stick…It should stay safer when I travel now.
