The joint is a very important part of your cue stick. This portion of the cue connects the power generating forearm and the ball controlling shaft and allows for a consistent flow of energy through ones shot. The material used in the joint of your cue is what helps to decide the amount of power allowed through it; the harder the material, the harder your hit. Joints can be made out of all the following: metal, phenolic, wood, buckhorn, or even ivory. Even the strongest of materials needs to be protected, if you are dismantling your cue, it is important to keep the joint secure with joint caps, which are made available to fit all joint sizes.
I decided to go with the wood to wood joint, since it has a softer feel when you hit with it.
