Ghost ball (n.) - Billiards Dictionary
Ghost ball (n.)
This is the imaginary location on the table where you cue ball will be located when it contacts the chosen object ball. This location is viewed as a technique for lining up your shot beforehand.

I like to try and view a ghost ball hitting the object ball before I commit with the cue ball.
