This technique refers to side spin applied to the cue ball by striking it off center. Some players will also use this term to refer to any technique initiated by hitting the cue ball off center, including follow and draw shots. Often times the face of a clock is used to describe where on the cue ball to strike in order to apply certain "English." A 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock hit offer side spin, while a 12 o’clock hit is a follow shot, and a 6 o’clock hit is a draw shot. Other times on the face, either closer or further to the center, will give you the opportunity to hit the cue ball in almost any fashion needed.
If I can just master this application of english then I will be a much more rounded player.
